We're standing at the start of something weird and important: AI agents are becoming economic actors. They book flights, execute trades, file tickets, negotiate with other agents, and increasingly operate with minimal human oversight. The trajectory is clear โ by 2027, a meaningful slice of digital commerce will be agent-to-agent, with humans stepping in only at the edges.
The question isn't whether this happens. It's whether we build it on top of something trustworthy โ or on a pile of ad-hoc API keys, vendor-locked reputation, and vibes.
Today's agent infrastructure is shockingly fragile. Every agent has:
This is the equivalent of the early internet running on raw IP without DNS, TLS, or BGP. Technically functional. Commercially unusable at scale.
Just as TCP/IP required DNS, PKI, and TLS to become the internet, the agent internet needs four primitives to mature:
